Temple Farm is a 34 acre site in Chelmsford, Essex, remediated to provide a live/work campus which complements its rural surroundings.

The new HQ for Jehovah's Witnesses in the UK, it comprises a factory unit, offices, residential and healthcare buildings, and an energy centre.

Uniquely, the £150m project has been built thanks to a mainly volunteer labour workforce.

Crofton Consulting produced dimensioned working drawings to enable the volunteers to work from Crofton’s output without the need for a main contractor. Accurate 3D views could be shown to volunteers to improve their understanding of the project and what was planned.

The first phase 450-unit apartment block took little under seven months, some six months ahead of what would be typical for a project of that nature.

Crofton’s development team created custom add-ins to automate asset numbering to the client’s specification, quickly updating thousands of asset tags based on space and building number.

It is only the second BREEAM Communities project to have received an outstanding rating.
