FIDIC’S annual conference in Mexico City was excellent with serious discussion, debate and inspirational speeches, as its members grappled with the key issues facing the global industry.

Infrastructure Intelligence’s special post-conference issue gives a real flavour of an event that shone the spotlight on how technological change is challenging and changing the construction and infrastructure sector.

The vital role of leadership in digital transformation was a recurring theme of the conference, with a strong steer that all firms will be digital going forward – it really is an ‘adapt or die’ time for the industry. That’s not to say that firms should fear change. Far from it. Digital should be seen as an opportunity and firms can use it to bring about change and make people’s lives better.

Another key theme in Mexico City was the importance of integrity and the fight against global corruption. As with many other issues, delegates said that FIDIC has a crucial role to play on this issue for the benefit of the whole industry and, indeed, the world.
