ONLINE CONFERENCE TO TAKE DEEP DIVE INTO SOCIAL VALUE AND CONSTRUCTION

The Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events continues on Friday 26 March 2021 with an online conference looking at one of the hottest topics facing the construction sector - social value.

Social value is increasingly being highlighted as a crucial requirement on construction and infrastructure projects and more and more clients are asking for the companies they work with to quantify the social good they can deliver on projects. However, social value comes in many different guises and many organisations still do not understand what it is, how to create it and how to measure it.

How often does the industry ask itself this question: What is the purpose of infrastructure? For social scientists, the question is an easy one to answer. The primary purpose of infrastructure and the built environment is serving the needs of communities, delivering better social outcomes and improving the quality of people’s lives.

But how good is our industry at putting people and their needs at the very heart of the way in which we design and deliver projects? What can we do to ensure that infrastructure is maximising all the opportunities available to it to leave a positive social legacy for the communities in which we work?

An ‘outcome-based’ model for infrastructure planning, with social value embedded at its heart, will be essential in ensuring the UK can build back better as a unified nation. The time to ‘think think think’ before we ‘build build build’ is now, to make sure we’re designing infrastructure that will be of long-term benefit to all of us socially, environmentally and economically.

This conference, organised in association with Infrastructure Intelligence's Events and Communications Strategic Partner, BECG, will take a deep dive into the issue of social value and construction and look to map a way forward that can future-proof projects for generations to come and help to deliver a social legacy for construction and infrastructure as well as a technical one.
