Potential contractors are being invited to find out more about a new £600m energy project in north London at a series of information days starting later this month.
North London Waste Authority (NLWA) is holding an initial market information event in central London on Wednesday 22 January – the first of three market information events focusing on works associated with the delivery of a new £600m energy recovery facility (ERF), as part of the North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP) at Edmonton EcoPark.
The ERF, which will be capable of generating up to 78 megawatts of electricity, is claimed to be the first in the UK to use Selective Catalytic Reduction for emissions removal, and use a combined wet/dry flue gas cleaning system to make it one of the cleanest in the country.
The appointed contractor will deliver all design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, testing, operator training and handover requirements for the new ERF including all buildings, infrastructure and works.
The key component is the design and construction of the ERF which will treat up to 700,000 tonnes of north London’s non-recyclable waste. Further details of the works included in the contract can be found in Prior Information Notice (PIN) here.
Described as a “crucial asset for north London” the NLHPP is also providing a new education and community centre known as EcoPark House and a Resource Recovery Facility which will maximise recycling from bulky waste.
The NLHPP will deliver at least 100 apprenticeships and 225 on-site skills training opportunities for the local community during construction.
Preparatory works to deliver the NLHPP commenced on site in early 2019, and the initial market information event will provide an opportunity for contractors to gain more information about:
- The authority’s vision for a successful project;
- The works package value, programme and contract details;
- The approach to procurement;
- Balance of risk between client and contractors;
- Working collaboratively to deliver outcomes, and
- Social value objectives.
Following the first event on 22 January, a further two events will be held where NLWA will present updates to the procurement strategy following feedback received from contractors.
To confirm attendance, please register here, and indicate if you would like to attend in person or via live webcast no later than Friday 17 January.
The venue for those attending in person and access details for those attending online will be communicated directly to contractors by the NLWA. Procurement for the ERF is expected to launch in mid-2020.
