Green construction innovator Dura Products has completed an infrastructure project in Ireland.
It has worked with Clandillon Civil Consulting and Killeshal, to install more than 2km of its shallow profile linear combined kerb and drainage system (CKD), Duradrain, within road and pavement structures on the N63-Majors Well Road in Longford.
The project, designed by Clandillon Civil Consulting and supplied by Dura Products’ Irish stockist, Killeshal, based locally in Daingean, Co Offaly, involved a new shallow profile design for the roads and pavements in the area to provide easier access for pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists in-line with recently published national guidelines.
Produced by the National Transport Authority, the new National Cycle Manual highlights primary principles for road and pavement design, guided by the need to deliver safe cycling infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities in the country.
Following the revised guidelines, the drainage systems on a number of roads and pavements in the area required upgrading to meet the national requirements.
Clandillon Civil Consulting selected Duradrain shallow profile linear CKD to provide efficient and safe surface water management.
By collecting surface run-off through each access/egress along the cycle lane-edge, driving to outlets hidden within the channel body, Duradrain helps extend the life of a project and improve the conditions for users and their safety, particularly on highways.
In addition to improving the safety profile of the highways, the use of Dura Products’ kerb and drainage system also brings added sustainability benefits.
Made from 70% recycled material and containing 199 recycled bottles, caps and closures in every unit, Duradrain has a low carbon output and requires little energy use during transportation and installation, thanks to its lightweight composition.
The units also have positive end-of-life potential as each one can be reused, recycled and carbon recovered.
Steve Bennett, managing director at Dura Products, said: “We were delighted to work with Clandillon Civil Consulting and Killeshal on this project.
“The unique features of our Shallow Profile Duradrain make it the perfect solution for local authorities looking to deliver safe and efficient drainage within modern infrastructure design, to prevent flooding or settlement and to protect surfaces, with an added sustainability benefit to boot!”
