A "thriving" technology company has become a delivery partner of the Construction Logistics and Community Safety Scheme (CLOCS) a national standard that requires all stakeholders in construction to take responsibility for health and safety beyond the building site and take ownership of work-related road risks.
Edinburgh-based Podfather, which specialises in the development, delivery and support, of software solutions that help companies plan and manage their vehicle fleets more efficiently, is set to provide valuable input and support to construction companies in their drive to deliver safer, leaner and greener construction logistics.
The award-winning developer of logistics planning, route optimisation and ePOD software, is already a trusted partner of well-known brands within the construction sector, including Breedon and Tarmac, and will use this experience to share best practice with other companies within the scheme.
It comes as over 5,500 vulnerable road users are killed or injured every year in collisions on Britain’s roads with vehicles commonplace in construction – that’s 20 people every working day.
CLOCS is a national Standard that requires all stakeholders in construction to take responsibility for health & safety beyond the hoardings.
It demands collaborative action to prevent fatal or serious collisions between vehicles servicing construction projects and vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
Podfather's managing director, Colin McCreadie, said: “We have a proven track record of helping construction companies and suppliers to the sector improve the management of their delivery operation ensuring they can optimise resources whilst still adhering to strict health and safety and environmental guidelines.
“Features such as mandatory vehicle checks and driver tracking give advance warning of potential defects and even possible behavioural issues, and tools including planning, route optimisation and ePOD, ensure drivers can concentrate on what they do best which is driving with the utmost care and attention.”
Andy Brooke CLOCS programme director, said: “As the CLOCS community grows and develops we value the input and engagement from organisations that offer products or services that support CLOCS Champions in efforts to ensure their logistics operations are undertaken in the safest possible way.
“CLOCS Delivery Partners, such as Podfather, recognise the positive impact that CLOCS has in reducing risk to vulnerable road users, improving air quality and increasing efficiencies, and I know they will support and enhance our work with the software they provide.”
The Podfather solution enables users to plan routes, collect vehicle checks, issue customer ETAs, track drivers and capture ePOD tickets.
