INFRASTRUCTURE INTELLIGENCE PUBLISHES SPECIAL NET ZERO ISSUE TO COINCIDE WITH COP26

Infrastructure Intelligence has teamed up with Atkins to produce a special net zero edition of our magazine, which has been published this week to coincide with the COP26 climate change conference taking place in Glasgow from 1-12 November 2021.

The special edition contains a range of articles, opinion and comment on net zero and sustainability issues and includes contributions from Sizewell C, the Scottish government, Atkins, Oxford City Council, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Nuclear Industry Association, Drax Group, the Environmental Industries Commission, the UK Green Building Council and Arcola Energy.

We are delighted to publish this special issue of Infrastructure Intelligence magazine at such an opportune moment for our industry and the world. Climate change is an issue that has catapulted to the top of the political and social agenda in recent years and for the construction and infrastructure sector, it’s clear that no project - however large or small - can be contemplated without taking account of the net zero agenda. That’s exactly as it should be of course, especially when you consider that the built environment and construction accounts for 38% of global carbon emissions.

Most of the decisions made by world leaders at COP26 will have a direct impact on our industry. It is absolutely right then that an industry that will shape the world of tomorrow should be seen as a crucial player in the global race to net zero. And it’s no exaggeration to say that the leaders of our industry have a key responsibility, not only to shape the future, but also to engage with politicians, NGOs and business leaders to ensure that they receive the best possible advice and assistance to help them make the right decisions.

This net zero special edition of Infrastructure Intelligence highlights and showcases some of the brilliant work that is taking place around sustainability and net zero and discusses some of the key issues that we need to address as an industry to create a better world. We hope that it will help to contribute to the current debates at COP26 around net zero and help amplify and promote the vital voice of construction and infrastructure in those discussions.
