MAJOR NEW NET ZERO REPORT TO BE LAUNCHED NEXT WEEK

A major report on net zero from the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) and the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) launches on 8 December 2020.

Are we ready? Delivering Net Zero in the Built Environment is the output from a joint ACE and EIC group which was brought together earlier this year to explore net zero.

The report outlines that the zero carbon built environment that will be needed in the next three decades will be the sum of all the projects – both new build and refurbishment – undertaken between now and then. But how ready is the sector to deliver net zero at project level? Does the industry have the tools to work with clients and regulators to effectively on the zero carbon transition? What changes will be needed from government?

With hard targets in place for society to meet, all the above are vital questions for anyone working in the design of the built environment, but will be especially interesting for business leaders who will need to oversee a transition to a new ways of thinking and working.

Commenting on the launch, Matthew Farrow, director of policy at ACE and EIC, said: “Net zero is the defining challenge of our times. Much has already been written about how we owe it to future generations to find solutions, but this new report moves us beyond to a discussion around the tangible next steps while highlighting key project and policy obstacles. Whether you work in the built environment, or deliver environmental services, this report will be vital reading on your own net zero journey."

Joining Matthew Farrow at the launch on Tuesday 8 December 2020 at 11am will be Sarah Prichard, chair of the ACE/EIC net zero group and UK managing director of Buro Happold, Tim Chapman of Arup and Dr Louise Carver of Lancaster University.
