Social value and understanding the potential positive impact of infrastructure is what drives many to join the construction industry. ACE’s North West group has organised a webinar on 30 March 2022 (11am to 11.45am) with expert industry speakers discussing how to make a difference in local communities and ensuring that true value is realised through the projects that are undertaken.
Speakers at the event, which is open to anyone working for an ACE or EIC member wherever they are based, include Sean Keyes from Sutcliffe, Nin Khoshaba of Hive Projects, Caroline Swailes from Be Ethical, Alfie Gilbert from Mott MacDonald and Ramone Johnson of Avison Young. They will highlight how they are engaging with communities across the north west in a bid to maximise social value.
Speaker Ramone Johnson, an associate at real estate consultants Avison Young, will draw on his wide experience of projects in the power and property sectors and also his role as a director of community interest company The Decision Factory, which promotes the advancement of future generations of black people by creating a community of role models and environments where young black people can achieve their unlimited potential.
Mott MacDonald social value consultant Alfie Gilbert will be talking about his role within his company and their approach to managing social value and how they are embedding principles, particularly focusing on challenges around organisational social value across a large consultancy.
Nin Koshaba of Hive Projects will discuss her role in the North Manchester General Hospital project offering insights into the deprivations and inequalities in this area. She will also talk about the North Manchester Social Value Framework, a local charter that has been developed to use social value to tackle inequalities and deliver outcomes that are good, fair and sustainable. She will also discuss how Hive have supported their supply chain partners on social value delivery.
Be Ethical’s Caroline Swailes will discuss what a business can achieve by adopting an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) approach to social value and impact. This will include practical ways to map, measure and report ESG success and explain the importance of developing the ‘social’ commitments to achieve the most significant impact for the environmental and governance aspects. Swailes will also cover the need for accountability, transparency and collaboration in making local changes for a global impact.
So, much to discuss in the 45-minute webinar, but well worth attending for ACE and EIC members working in the construction and infrastructure sector who wants to understand better how to make an impact with social value.
