Middlesbrough College has officially launched its £12m TTE Centre – a technical training facility that will equip the next generation of engineers and skilled professionals.
Broadcaster and proud Teesside native, Steph McGovern, opened the centre which features industry-standard training equipment and immersive learning environments designed to simulate real-world scenarios, preparing students for successful careers in engineering and process industries.
McGovern, who is passionate supporter of young people and STEM - science, technology, engineering and mathematics - learning, praised the TTE Centre’s potential to transform lives and careers.
“It’s brilliant to see this kind of investment in the North-east,” she said. “The TTE Centre is exactly what young people need – access to world-class facilities and hands-on training that sets them up for successful careers.
“It’s proof that the talent we have here in Teesside is second to none and now students have the tools to really thrive.
“Having a centre like this gives young people the confidence and skills to compete on a national and even global stage – it’s a real game-changer for the region!”
The opening ceremony welcomed mayor Chris Cooke alongside industry leaders including AV Dawson, British Steel and Morgan Sindall, the contractors who built the centre, as well as students.
Facilities include advanced engineering workshops, process control labs and immersive virtual reality training areas.
Specialist process control bays offer hands-on experience with the latest instrumentation and control technologies. Electrical and mechanical training areas are available to help students develop essential skills in electrical installation and maintenance, hydraulics and pneumatics and mechanical fitting principles.
Additionally, virtual reality dynamic simulation training areas provide immersive learning experiences to enhance safety training and operational efficiency.
Zoe Lewis, principal and chief executive of Middlesbrough College, highlighted the centre’s importance for both students and local industries.
“The opening of the TTE Centre marks a significant step forward in our commitment to providing students with the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for,” she said.
“This facility will strengthen our local economy, ensuring that the next generation of skilled professionals are equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving industry.”
The TTE Centre is part of Middlesbrough College’s ongoing commitment to supporting regional industries and providing students with the tools they need to succeed in the workforce.
