Engineering, design and sustainability consultancy Ramboll has announced the appointment of Rachel Jones as regenerative solutions director to its transport team. 

She joins from WSP where she was corporate advisory lead and technical director, overseeing WSP’s corporate advisory services for sustainability and climate change. 

Jones has supported the delivery of several high-profile projects in the transport sector, including improving environmental management and sustainability practices for National Highways, South Western Railway, Transport for London, Gatwick Airport and the Department of Transport.

She brings with her a breadth and depth of knowledge built over 32 years in environmental and sustainability practice including previous roles at Jacobs and SKM. 

Jones specialises in embedding sustainability into organisations’ plans, strategies and operations to influence culture and decision making across both the public and private sectors. 

She has also been a practitioner of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment since 1999. 

In her role as regenerative solutions director in Ramboll’s Transport team, her extensive technical knowledge will prove invaluable in overseeing the implementation of regenerative solutions, ensuring Ramboll clients get leading advice and progressive solutions that meet future needs of our climate and society. She will also be supporting growth in Ramboll’s advisory service offering.

She said: “Regenerative solutions will be key to undoing the damage already done to the environment and it’s fantastic to be helping organisations in the transport sector implement these into their projects.”

The Railway Industry Association (RIA), the voice of the rail supply community, has appointed a new chair and vice chair for the Wales and Western leadership group.

Daniel Smith, head of engineering and design from D2Rail, takes the position of chair and Phil Harrison, director at Arup, has been appointed vice chair.

They have close to 50 years of combined experience accumulated in the sector.

National law firm Irwin Mitchell is expanding its construction and engineering team with the recruitment of a new partner, Joanna Preece, who will be based in the firm’s London office.

The appointment takes the specialist construction team to 15, with four partners and two trainees. 

The team is led by Mark Clinton and sits within Irwin Mitchell’s property division which will now number 30 partners and more than 150 qualified lawyers. 

Preece joins Irwin Mitchell from Maples Teesdale LLP where she was a non-contentious construction partner. Prior to joining Maples Teesdale, she was a senior associate at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, where she trained and qualified.

The RO Group has appointed Matteo Scabbia as head of property management.  

In his new role, he will be based at the company's London office and will work across the group’s extensive real estate portfolio. 

He brings a wealth of experience to the RO Group, having previously served as a property asset manager at Sorbon Estates, where he started his career.  

His previous achievements include successfully leasing 17,000sq ft of retail and leisure space in a development located in the South-east and skilfully navigating property conversions after tenant departures during the Covid-19 pandemic.
