Skanska has signed a £43m contract with Network Rail for its replacement Clifton bridge project near Penrith, Cumbria.
The project will see the replacement of the rail bridge that spans the M6 motorway near Penrith.
The existing bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new 130 meter single span steel structure.
The new bridge will be built alongside the existing structure, before being installed over a 10-day period early January next year.
Existing bridge support structures will be re-used, reducing programme timescales, cost and resultant carbon emissions.
Construction works have already started with the project scheduled for completion in March 2026.
