Southern Water has awarded contracts to eight companies across two new capital delivery frameworks as work steps up ahead of the 2025-30 spending period.
The water firm has announced the framework winners in preparation for asset management period 8 (AMP8).
These partners will now carry out work under either the ‘strategic delivery partner’ or ‘infrastructure low complexity delivery route’ frameworks.
Those in the former group will be responsible for major infrastructure projects such as constructing new pipelines and pumping stations, or non-infrastructure schemes including upgrades to water supply works or wastewater treatment works.
Meanwhile, partners in the latter group will either focus on water or waste, and this will typically involve design and build projects on the water supply network or sewers.
Costain and MWH Treatment - as part of the CMDP+ joint venture - Kier Integrated Services and Galliford Try Construction have all been awarded places on the strategic delivery partner framework for non-infrastructure above ground works.
Meanwhile, Morrison Water Services has been awarded a place on the strategic delivery partner framework for infrastructure works.
Separately, the infrastructure low complexity delivery route framework has awarded places to Clancy Docwra, United Living Infrastructure Services and Barhale for works on the water side, and Clancy Docwra, J Browne Construction Co and Morrison Utility Services on the wastewater side.
This announcement follows Southern Water’s previous award of two other capital delivery frameworks – the professional services framework and the non-infrastructure low complexity delivery route – marking the completion of procurement of the company’s entire capital delivery supply chain for AMP8.
The total value of the frameworks is approximately £3.7bn over the initial contract term, which is seven years for the strategic delivery partner framework and five years for the low complexity delivery route framework.
Both have options to extend.
Southern Water’s chief financial officer, Stuart Ledger, said: “This announcement marks an important milestone in our preparation for the next regulatory investment period 2025-30 and beyond.
“Southern plans to more than double its investment over the next five years to meet the needs of customers and the environment. I am confident that working together with our partners we will fully meet this challenge.”
Alex Vaughan, CEO, Costain, added: “This AMP8 announcement builds on our growing positions with the leading water companies as they prepare for a nationally important period of record investment.
“This framework marks three decades of delivering industry leading essential solutions for Southern Water.
“Through our successful joint venture with MWH Treatment, we will upgrade water and wastewater services for Southern Water and its customers, safeguarding the environment, and securing water supplies across the region; as well as creating new jobs and added social value.”
Andy Lingham, managing director for Kier’s water business, said: “Southern Water Services’ critical infrastructure includes a network of 53,470km of clean and wastewater pipelines, connecting 458 water treatment works.
“We’re proud to have been appointed to their framework and providing our expertise to support Southern Water Services ambitions to create a resilient water future for their customers across South East England.”
