SWECO APPOINTS TWO NEW TRANSPORT PLANNING DIRECTORS

Sweco UK has appointed two new directors to its rapidly-growing transport modelling and appraisal team.

Wei Wang has joined the company as a technical director, bringing more than 25 years of sector experience working in the UK and abroad. He joins from Atkins, where he contributed to projects including the development of the Department for Transport’s national transport model, and Highways England’s south east regional traffic model.

Meanwhile, Ben Nicholass also joins as technical director from Jacobs. He has 15 years’ experience in transport planning. This includes leading the development and implementation of the transport modelling for each phase of HS2. He has also previously acted as a transport modeller for TfL, and as a highway modelling manager for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Nicholass will hold a business development and project delivery role at Sweco, with a focus on major public sector initiatives.

The two new directors will be based in Sweco’s London office in its transport modelling and appraisal team, led by technical director Karl Jarvis. Over the last three years, the team, which is based across Sweco’s offices in Solihull and London, has grown from two people to more than 20.

Claire Carr, director, transport planning, Sweco, said: “Developing transport infrastructure is a key priority for many local authorities as they look to improve connectivity and enhance mobility, which serves to drive regional economic growth and boost productivity. Transport modelling has a central role to play in informing the design of effective, efficient transport solutions. Wei and Ben bring with them a wealth of skills and experience that will enhance the range of transport services we offer our clients, and further our project delivery capabilities as we continue to plan and design the cities and communities of the future.”
