Global professional services specialists Turner & Townsend have been appointed to provide cost management advisory services for the City Rail Link project in Auckland.
City Rail Link is the largest transport infrastructure project ever undertaken in New Zealand. With a capital value of more than NZ$4.4bn, it comprises the redevelopment of an existing heritage station, two new underground stations linked by a 3.45km twin tunnel up to 42 metres below the city centre, and associated network enhancements.
Ross Dunkerley, regional director for Turner & Townsend New Zealand, said: “Upon its completion in 2024, City Rail Link will double Auckland’s rail capacity and improve travel times for the entire transport network. It represents a significant enhancement and modernisation of the city’s urban framework. We are very proud to play our part in City Rail Link which will enrich the lives of so many in Auckland.
“The City Rail Link project represents an exciting opportunity for us as our Auckland office continues to grow. We will be applying both local and international best practice expertise to ensure it is a legacy project for New Zealand.”
The project will transform the city's downtown Britomart Transport Centre into a two-way through-station that better connects the Auckland rail network. It will also allow the rail network to at least double its capacity.
City Rail Link is jointly funded by the New Zealand government and Auckland Council and will provide the capacity to manage 54,000 passengers an hour at peak travel times.
