WEBINARS! DOUBLE-HEADLINERS FOR ACE ON WEDNESDAY 18 MAY

The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) is hosting two key webinars this Wednesday, 18 May, covering the hot topics of net zero and R&D tax credits respectively.

The morning kicks off at 11am, with a member-only 45-minute webinar exploring how key public sector client National Highways is meeting national net zero commitments.

That’s followed hot-on-the-heels at midday by a joint ACE and ForrestBrown webinar on the future of R&D tax credits.

Both webinars are set to cover a range of key issues facing ACE members and the construction and infrastructure sector as a whole, and the two events are:

Meet National Highways’ new Net Zero lead: ACE webinar on Wednesday 18 May at 11am welcomes Stephen Elderkin.

National Highways has created a new division focused on environmental sustainability. Headed by Stephen Elderkin, an environmental policy expert with a background in government carbon policy, the new division will spearhead National Highways’ efforts in helping to meet ambitions for net zero by 2050.

Elderkin will present the new division’s work, how it will change how National Highways delivers new major roads while managing our existing infrastructure, how this impacts on procurement, as well as what it means for the wider industry. The session will also provide an update on ACE’s policy activity in this area.

Guto Davies, head of policy at ACE, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Stephen Elderkin for the first of our new look online events exploring the policy space with key stakeholders. The challenges of meeting net zero also present opportunities for ACE members, and it will be fascinating to see how National Highways are approaching the issue and where we can work collaboratively to meet national carbon commitments. Our online event will be vital for anyone working in the external affairs, procurement, transport or Net Zero spaces. I look forward to seeing you there.”

This webinar is open to anyone working for an ACE member.

The future of R&D tax credits: Join ACE and ForrestBrown for a webinar on Wednesday 18 May at 12noon.

HMRC recently argued that R&D paid for by a client is, in effect, subsidised. As this form of R&D expenditure is ineligible for SME R&D tax relief, the end-result is that consultancy and engineering firms have been denied potential six-figure R&D tax credit benefits.

ACE affiliate ForrestBrown has successfully challenged HMRC in court on behalf of its clients on this issue, but with HMRC likely to continue with this approach, what is next for businesses?

Aimed at senior business leaders and directors, as well as those already working with R&D tax credits, the webinar features ForrestBrown’s tax director Jenny Tragner CA ATT, their engineering sector specialist Gareth Randle, and ACE’s Ian Parker.

Ian Parker, commercial manager at ACE, said: “We all know that R&D tax credits are a great way to find extra sources of income, vital in these challenging times. However with HMRC introducing a new approach, it has never been more important to work with experts on your claim, which is why we’re delighted to welcome ForrestBrown to speak to members around the recent changes.”

This webinar is open to anyone working for an ACE member.
