WHAT NOW FOR THE TRANSPORT SECTOR AFTER THE COVID CRISIS?

The Infrastructure Intelligence Live series of events continues on Friday 28 May 2021 with a webinar looking at the future of transport in the aftermath of the Covid crisis.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a drastic effect on the transport sector. Aviation has been decimated and the rail industry is a shadow of its former self, with the government intervening in the UK to keep it afloat. Net zero and concerns about sustainability and air pollution are causing governments to look afresh at transport and it’s likely that 2021 will be a pivotal year for the sector.

In 2020, only 4% of the usual rail passengers travelled at the start of lockdown and this figure only rose to around 10% as restrictions eased. In March last year, the government was faced with the collapse of the rail franchise system as the train operators' business model was decimated by the pandemic. The government implemented emergency measures agreements, effectively nationalising and paying for the entire cost of the railway, while taking in a few crumbs of revenue. An entire transport sector was changed irrevocably.

So, what will the future of transport look like? What lessons can be learned internationally and what skills and technologies will be needed to address the coming challenges? This webinar will try and provide some answers.

Find out what the future holds for the transport sector by booking your place at this webinar, which is organised in association with our Events and Communications Strategic Partner, BECG.
