WOOD AWARDED CONTRACT WITH DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION

Global consulting and engineering company Wood has been awarded a technical advisor role with the Department for Education (DfE), as part of a transformative, ten-year construction programme.

The School Rebuilding Programme (SRP), commenced in February this year with a £1bn rebuilding and refurbishment of 50 schools across England, followed by a further 50 confirmed schools in July 2021. The SRP will target school and sixth form college buildings most in need of refurbishment and improvement in conditions.

With sustainability at the heart of the programme, modern methods of construction will be utilised to create energy-efficient buildings and infrastructure to reduce carbon footprint and help meet net zero targets.

A multidisciplinary Wood team will work with key supplier Rider Levett Bucknall to support DfE across the full project life cycle by providing consultancy services, including architecture and building services design, sustainability services, project and contract management and clerk of works.

Andy Hemingway, president of energy, innovation and optimisation at Wood, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Department of Education as technical advisor. The SRP programme will create modern, environmentally sustainable environments that will transform schools and colleges across England and improve the education of tens of thousands of children and young people.”
