WSP CEMENTS ROLE ON GLOBAL AIRPORT CARBON ACCREDITATION PROGRAMME

WSP has been reappointed by Airports Council International – European region (ACI EUROPE) to deliver the programme administration role for the airport carbon accreditation programme.

Building on more than ten years of collaboration with ACI, WSP will continue to support airport carbon accreditation as programme administrator for the next three years, strengthening the programme’s drive to promote and support the climate action ambitions of the airport industry.

WSP started working on the programme in 2007, participating in the development of the programme before its launch in 2009 with 17 participating airports. In the subsequent ten years, the programme now has a global reach with more than 275 airports currently accredited at one of the four available levels of the programme. Last year, these airports welcomed 43.9% of global air passenger traffic.

“We are delighted to continue providing our support to the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, which has delivered significant carbon savings since its inception,” said Simon Clouston, technical director at WSP. “Celebrating its ten-year anniversary last month, the programme has grown into a global force for good and we are excited to be a part of its drive towards a decarbonised airport industry.”

“This has been a decade of extraordinary momentum for the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme,” said Olivier Jankovec, director general, ACI EUROPE. “Since 2009, the issue of carbon management has gone from being on the sidelines to front & centre-stage. The next decade will undoubtedly see more evolution and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with WSP as programme administrator.”
